5.1.2011 May Journal. Asceticism austerity and self-denial, especially as a principled way of life - we used to think asceticism was liberation a sort of freedom that would eliminate our dependence to others. I believe is quite the contrary. That is I believe that asceticism, the mystical serene never never land leads us into an abyss. An abyss that simply said is like a mono color painting where everything matches and everything is yellow, green or blue. It is an abyss of non commitment to self an abyss of the loss of self. The loss of self stops all movement all play.
In order to move from the space of the abyss the artist needs to shed all historical influences. Is this possible? It is when we are the reason, the justification for something and not part of the existence of something "mystery" or "serenity". It is when we try and make everything represent something is it is not. That is when we try to make something placid rather lively and moving. Once something becomes placid it is easier for it to disappear and in turn obsolete. How many, how many artists follow the ascetism of never never land where all things are dream like - and how many of them, along with their art disappear. That is not to say that if an artist and in turn their art are in perpetual motion that their work is wonderful and the next great thing. Artists have tried that - to become the avant guarde, that isn't what art is.
Artists need to be able to answer that age old question, what is art, before their work becomes art and before they themselves become artists.

5.14.2011. There are some days when the beauty of nature is almost too much. When nature fills my senses with it's beauty I realize how pleasant it is just to sit and try and absorb all that has been created and will be created I am filled with a indescribable peace and awe.
5.3.2011. Should art represent life or should life represent art? In both cases one needs to know what life is and what art is. And those are big things to know. For me art are motley spaces. For me life and art are abstract things and defy clear defination if they are to be free.
